The Skoda Kodiaq hit the Indian markets in 2017 following its global launch in 2016. The model received changes in edition and variants since then, but a major overhaul in its design was missing. After four years, the company finally gave its mid-life update to its Skoda Kodiaq and the range-topping RS variants for a fresh look.
The company revealed the new protruding Skoda family grille which can clearly identify it as a 2021 model. The grille’s cosmetic updates are very subtle and can only be figured out if someone looks at it minutely. Nevertheless, the grille fits perfectly in the Kodiaq as compared to the sedans like the new OctaviaThe 2021 Skoda Kodiaq gets a redesigned hood and slim headlights along with optional matrix LED technology. The new roof-mounted spoilers and bumpers give a more advanced aerodynamical appearance than before. The model will also have a wide range of alloy wheels ranging between 17-20 inches which are even redesigned to minimize the drag as much as it can. The sportier RS trim gets the 20-inch large polished alloys in metallic black finish. The Skoda retains its overall layout of the cabin but will come with a new steering wheel, updated infotainment system, instrument cluster and new optional massage seats.
The interior part of Skoda Kodiaq has received subtle changes. The company is offering optional ergonomic seats wrapped in perforated leather along with a massaging function with heating and electrical adjustment. It is reported that the Kodiaq seats are eco-friendly as it has been made using recycled vegetable materials similar to the Kushaq. Customers can avail updated Canton sound system with ten speakers on offer, along with a trunk-mounted subwoofer. The two-spoke steering wheel spotted in other Skoda models is also present along with more upmarket LED ambient lighting. But the main highlight of this updated model will be its new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and the latest 9.2-inch touchscreen.
Talking about the mechanical updates, the Skoda has incorporated only TSI powertrains in its range. It features new turbo-petrol engines. The Kodiaq will be powered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder TSI motor that will produce 190 hp, and its 1.5-litre TSI engine will produce around 148 bhp. However, the latter is still not confirmed about its launch in India, but the former will be available across the country with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup, as per reports. The Skoda Kodiaq RS has discontinued the twin-turbo mill and is using the Octavia RS 2.0-litre TSI powertrain that produces around 245hp maximum power. The engines are also paired to a remapped 7-speed standard DSG (dual-clutch) transmission. The 2021 Kodiaq RS is 60kgs lighter than the outgoing model due to the new drivetrain.
The 2021 Skoda Kodiaq is expected to launch in India sometime in the third quarter of 2021.
