Kia Motors entered the Indian market in the year 2019 with the Kia Seltos mid-size SUV and it became instantly very popular in the country. The Kia Seltos was originally launched in India in August 2019 and within a year of its launch, over 1 lakh examples were sold in the country. Kia then launched the Carnival Premium MPV at the 2020 Auto Expo and finally, the Kia Sonet sub-compact SUV was launched in September 2020. The Kia Sonet even received a minor update earlier this year. So, in this article, we have shared with you the Kia Sonet Review and all the details about it.

Design and Colour Variants
Kia is known to make some of the best looking cars in the world and the same stands true for the new Kia Sonet too. The Sonet is one of the best-looking compact SUVs out there in the Indian market. At the front, it sports Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille along with an all-LED headlamp set-up. It also gets hook-shaped LED DRLs and LED foglamps. The Kia Sonet is available in GT line and Tech Line trims and the GT line trim looks verty sporty. The side profile of the SUV gets machined-cut multi-spoke alloy wheels and at the rear, it features LED LED taillamps. The new Kia Sonet even features body-cladding all-around along with skid plates at the front & rear that gives it a rugged look along with new Kia logo.
The new Kia Sonet is currently available on sale in India in ten different colour options, out of which seven are mono-tone shades and three are dual-tone colour schemes. The mono-tone colour shades include Intense Red, Glacier White Pearl, Steel Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, Beige Gold, Gravity Gray and Intelligence Blue. The dual-tone colour schemes are Beige Gold with Aurora Black Pearl, Glacier White Pearl with Aurora Black Pearl and Intense Red with Aurora Black Pearl.
The new Kia Sonet is offered with a wide range of powertrain options. There are two petrol engines and a diesel motor on offer and all of them get several transmission options too. First of all, the Kia Sonet gets a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that pumps out 83 PS of power and 114 Nm of peak torque. This partical engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. Next, the company offers a powerful BS6 compliant 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This turbo petrol motor churns out 120 PS of maximum power and 172 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission).
Finally, there is a diesel engine on offer in two states of tune. The Kia Sonet gets a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine that pumps out 100 PS of power with 240 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Now, this same mill is available with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission too but in a tuned avatar. The Sonet Diesel AT gets the same engine but churns out 115 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque just like Seltos.

Features On Offer and Safety Equipment
Just like most other Kia cars, the new Kia Sonet is loaded with a ton of features, including some segment-first ones. For instance, the Sonet gets a massive 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It even packs Kia’s new UVO connectivity and offers more than 57 connected car features. The compact SUV is loaded with a ton of other features including an electric sunroof, a premium BOSE multi-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats, smart air purifier with virus protection, ambient lighting, wireless charger & many more goodies. The new Kia Sonet gets a host of safety features too which include ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and Brake Assist, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), HSA (Hill-Start Assist Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management). It even gets cruise control, front and rear parking sensors along with a rear parking camera, etc.
Price, Competition and Should You Buy It?
Finally, let’s talk about the price. The all-new Kia Sonet mid-size SUV is currently priced in India between Rs 6.79 lakhs – Rs 13.09 lakhs for the petrol variants and its diesel variants are priced between Rs 8.35 lakhs – Rs 13.35 lakhs. All the prices mentioned here are applicable to Ex-showroom Delhi. The Kia Sonet stacks up against the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Honda WR-V, Mahindra XUV 300, and the likes.
