The Maruti Suzuki Baleno premium hatchback has surpassed the milestone mark of 9 lakh sales for the first time since the company introduced it in 2015. The company claims the Baleno to be the fastest 4-wheeler model to cross 9 lakh sales in India.
One lakh Baleno units were sold by the brand in just a year of its launch back in 2016 and touched the milestone of 2 lakh sales within a year from its first milestone.
Maruti Suzuki surpassed 5 lakh sales of the Baleno by November 2018- a remarkable feat achieved by the company in just three years of its launch. The sales skyrocketed to 7 lakh units as the company sold 2 lakh more Baleno units in 2019.
The company revealed the increase of their premium hatchback’s cumulative sales to a total of 8 lakh units in October 2020, even during the massive auto slowdown due to the pandemic. The sales kept rising to 1 lakh more units in the following 6 months as it hit both the domestic and international markets. As a result, the Baleno is currently India’s best and fastest selling premium hatchback.
The Indian-made Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a part of a strategic partnership between Toyota and Suzuki and is offered in the name of Glaza. It is exported to different international markets like Australia, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Middle-East and South-East Asia. The premium hatchback had the legendary name from the sedan model, which was earlier offered in India before it was finally discontinued.
The Suzuki Baleno costs between Rs. 5.90 lakh and Rs. 9.10 lakh and is available in the market in four variants: Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. It comes in 1.2-litre petrol and 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol unit options. The non-hybrid engine comes with either a 5-speed manual or an automatic CVT, while the mild-hybrid engine comes with a standard 5-speed manual.
In just 6 years, the Baleno has created history. Although it has seen a huge growth in sales in India, it will face severe competitions from Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo, and Tata Altroz.
